Nigerian Telecom Companies Introduce New Harmonised Codes for Enhanced Customer Experience

Nigeria's major telecom companies, namely MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile, have embarked on the implementation of harmonised codes aimed at improving customer experience and streamlining service delivery across all networks. The harmonisation of these codes will simplify transactions such as airtime recharge and data subscription for subscribers.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) recently mandated the adoption of these harmonised codes, and the telecom giants have promptly begun notifying their millions of customers to utilize the new codes for their transactions. This development is set to make life easier for telecom customers across the country.
In line with the NCC's directive, the previous codes used for activities like recharging, data subscription, and balance inquiries will no longer function as of May 17, 2023. To ensure a seamless transition, telecom consumers are advised to familiarize themselves with the new codes.
MTN, one of the leading telecom providers, has sent a message to its customers, informing them of the updated codes for various services. 
The message reads: "Y'ello! Our codes have changed, and here are the new ones: Data plans - *312#, Airtime Recharge - *311#, Borrow Airtime/Data - *303#, Data Balance - *323#, Account Balance - *310#, Share Data - *321#, VAS - *305#, NIN - *996."

301: Voice Mail Deposit
302: Voice Mail Retrieval

310: Check Balance
311: Credit Recharge

323: Data Plan Balance
996: Verification of Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) registration or NIN-SIM linkage
2442: Do-Not-Disturb (DND) unsolicited messaging complaint management
3232: Mobile Number Portability (porting services)
