Why I Won’t Stop Contesting Elections Till I Win – Tonto Dikeh

Why I Won’t Stop Contesting Elections Till I Win –Tonto Dikeh

The Rivers State deputy governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in the 2023 election and popular Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, said on Saturday she would not stop contesting the election until she realised her ambition.

She said her chances of governing the oil-rich state in the future were both high and slim because politics is dirty.

Dikeh stated these in an interview with journalists in Abuja during the GOTNI national leadership conference, organised by its National Leadership Centre with the theme, ‘Leadership for sustainability.’

She said,

“One of the things I learnt (in contesting the election) is resilience and never giving up. I know after four years, they will forget about me and that, ‘she is not going to come back.’ But I am going to come back. Every four years, I am going to come back. I will come back and I will be in their faces. I will be coming back to the contest.

“My chances (of becoming governor) are high and slim because politics is dirty. It’s not going to be free and fair. (Nyesom) Wike’s candidate didn’t win free and fair. So I don’t expect politics to be free and fair, but I expect that, as someone said, having a lion’s heart requires taking the lion’s share.

“I won’t care what they think about my position, I will keep having the lion’s share, whether it is my personal life or politics, I am here to stay and they have no choice but to accept it.”

According to her, leadership is something that Nigerian youths need, especially now when they are all striving for a better Nigeria and a better life.

Dikeh said,

“I said something; I said that the youths are restless. They are young, they are vibrant, and this is the time for them to do things. They cannot achieve those things if they do not fall under the platform of leadership.

“I contested for the position of Deputy Governor of Rivers State under the ADC and I saw how the older politicians perceived me like, ooh! This girl came to joke but I told them I didn’t come to joke.

“I made them understand that I came to fight. I might not have won but it will go down in history that I contested against Wike or Wike’s boy or the other big shots that I contested against.’

The celebrity said one of the reasons why the elderly look down on the youth is because they lack leadership, while the older class does not see what they should be seeing in the younger people.

“They are not totally wrong; I saw what happened during the #EndSARS saga. There was no form of leadership. I personally did not want to indulge in that because, after investing so many millions on GOTNI Leadership Centre and attending programmes almost every three months, I would not go into a fight blind without a leader or without a structure.

“It was structureless, and these are the things that the elderly politicians look at us and say that these people are not ready. We need to put ourselves in the position of power, and it is not just contesting; it is actually being power yourself, and I don’t think we have gotten there yet as it is,”

she stated.

Uncertainty surrounds Peseiros future as Super Eagles coach

Jose Peseiro’s one-year contract as the Super Eagles head coach expires June 30.

Up until this moment, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is yet to officially state its position on the 64-year-old’s future.

Will he stay? Or will he go?

JOIN OUR TELEGRAM CHANNEL FOR MORE UPDATES

The Eagles’ 3-2 win over Sierra Leone last week saw the team qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that will be played in Ivory Coast.

The eye test from that match in Monrovia scarcely provided enough evidence to keep Peseiro in charge.

His job was on the line in March after they lost 1-0 to Guinea-Bissau in the AFCON qualifying series. That result in Abuja led to calls for Peseiro to be dismissed.

JOIN OUR TELEGRAM CHANNEL FOR MORE UPDATES

He redeemed himself with a scrappy 1-0 win over the same opponents in the reverse fixture three days later.

Peseiro’s results in charge of the three-time African champions have been below average. Nigeria have won only four and lost five of eight games played under his leadership.

“It was an experiment always destined to fail.

“His record speaks for itself, four wins in nine games is a testament to his incompetence.

“In a short sample size, the Super Eagles were inconsistent, without a clear pattern and struggled against half decent sides,” Tosin Abayomi, who is the Editor for Nigerian Sports with Pulse, tells DAILY POST.

Lolade Adewuyi, Managing Editor Soccernet.ng, has a different view.

“I think he has tried to play safe by not cutting out redundant players in the squad.

“He has not brought a forceful attitude towards the job because of his tenuous work contract. Perhaps he would be more deliberate if given a longer contract that will enable him to make proper plans.

JOIN OUR TELEGRAM CHANNEL FOR MORE UPDATES

“Right now we are seeing a coach who’s trying to keep his job, so he’s playing safe on many levels, including closing the door on new talent in order to maintain group synergy,” Adewuyi explains.

The man himself sounded very confident about staying on after the victory over the Leone Stars.

“Against Sao Tome, of course, we have to create more dynamics and organisation.

“If I change, how can I improve the team for AFCON? However, the door of the Super Eagles is open for everybody,” Peseiro said, ahead of the final qualifying game and the tournament that kicks off in January 2024.

Adewuyi sees the sense in keeping Peseiro on, so he can lead the Eagles to the 2023 AFCON 2023.

“I have always advocated for continuity in coaching. We cannot keep changing coaches and expect to develop a proper plan for the national team.

“If he satisfies the NFF with his plans, then I hope he stays at least until the AFCON since he’s been building something,” he adds.

As expected, Abayomi kicks against the NFF retaining Peseiro in the role.

“Jose Peseiro has no business staying on as Head Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

“Talk of making a mistake of not renewing his contract has no similarity to Rohr being dismissed before the last AFCON.

“Once his contract is done, he should be dismissed without thanks as the Super Eagles continue their rebuilding process,” Abayomi insists.

Five key talking points as BBNaija reunion commences

The long anticipated BBNaija Level Up Reunion show has started airing.

The show is intrigued with issues on revelations, fights and dramas.

During the show, the ex-housemates are expected to reunite, mend fences, confront their past and resolve conflicts.

The 2022 season of the reality show, tagged “Level Up” brought a fierce competition among the housemates who were divided into two different houses- namely Level One and Level Two.

Housemates of the sixth edition of the reality show were in no particular order: Amaka, Beauty, Bryann, Christian, Cyph, Daniella and Groovy.

Others were Ilebaye, Kess, Khalid, Pharmsavi,Phyna, Adekunle Allysyn, Bella,Chichi, Chomzy, Diana, Dotun, Doyin, Eloswag, Giddyfia, Hermes and Sheggz.

Phyna was crowned winner of the edition and she went home with a grand prize of N100 million.

The ongoing BBNaija Reunion show is designed to bring the viewers up to speed on what has been going on with the reality TV stars.

DAILY POST brings you the five talking points of this year’s Reunion show:

Love Triangles

One of the highlights of the level up season was the web of love interests in the house. Due to the introduction of levels and different houses, housemates were entangled with love interest in opposite houses.

This caused a rift among housemates who could not properly pursue a relationship with their preferred housemates in the other house because of competition and possible misinterpretation from their teammates as they were told to keep certain secrets from housemates in other levels.

JOIN OUR TELEGRAM CHANNEL FOR MORE UPDATES

This issue affected a level 1 housemate, Doyin, who liked Cyph (a Level 2 housemate) and Phyna, who in the first week was in love with Eloswag, but he liked Chomzy who was in his level and they saw each other everyday.

There was first the Groovy and Beauty ship before Groovy and Phyna.

Amaka also liked Groovy and Groovy confessed that he liked Chomzy at one point.

Unresolved conflicts

Viewers of the show will find out if housemates have attempted to resolve past conflicts. The level up season was filled with confrontation which led to the disqualification of Beauty.

The reunion can be a catalyst for both closure and new tensions among the housemates as issues that escalated and led to tension in the house can be resolved.

There could also be new perspectives to events that took place because it is believed that viewers are not shown everything that happened in the house.

For example, there are different story angles behind the fight that happened between Amaka and Phyna, Groovy and Beauty, Adekunle, Sheggz and Bella.

Sour relationships and revelations

It appears that some relationships formed in the house no longer exist as some housemates have in the past month been abusing each other on social media. Those who used to be best of friends have either blocked each other or threatened to expose their secret.

It also appears that Chichi is the antagonist of the season. The stripper seems to be up against Chomzy, Phyna, Rachael and Deji, her ex-lover.

The relationship between Phyna and Groovy may have also hit the rock as both finalists do not speak to each other. Viewers will now be aware of unexpected secrets and behind-the-scenes stories housemates may have hidden during and after the show.

These revelations will most likely lead to controversy among the housemates because those affected will try to protect their brand.

Career and Personal Growth

The 27 housemates will reflect on the personal and career goals they set for themselves at the beginning of the show. They will be revealing how the show has impacted and shaped their lives.

Some might discuss their challenges, successes and journey since they left the show. They will also disclose how their careers, relationships, or personal development have been impacted in the last one year.

The offensive nature of BBN Reunion show

The ex-housemates see the reunion show as an avenue to often tear each other apart and most often miss the point of educating Nigerians on what they have been able to achieve after the house.

Just like viewers could have witnessed on Thursday night how Phyna was all over Chichi saying some nasty things about her, her late parents and dead child. It is often about body-shaming and abusing each on national television.

From the actions of the ex-housemates during the reality show, one could be tempted to ask what kind of persons find their way into the reality show.

Furthermore, most of these ex-housemates who adopted many stories just to go far or even win the show are usually exposed during the Reunion show as the reunions are notorious for exposing hidden agenda.

While some will use the reunion to settle scores, others will try to correct the viewers’ impression.

Speaking to DAILY POST about BBN Reunion shows, Miss Amaka Ezeigwe, a Lagos-based social analyst, said that even though most viewers of the show may not want to watch a dull show lacking the infusion of drama and fights, there is the need to always draw the line.

According to her, “Just like witnessed during the proper show, these are people from different cultures, communities and family backgrounds coming together to live under one roof. You don’t expect them to behave the same way.

“Even if they were from one family, there will still be fights. Now what is important is- what does the organisers show to the public? It is left for them to decide what to air and what not to bring to the public domain.

“Also, the participants themselves should learn how to draw the line. They should realise that one must not say things just because you intend to prove a point and letter you’ll regret them.
