Mallam Nabanje, the commander of the vigilante group in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, has been butchered by bandits who also set his house ablaze.
The gunmen who stormed the community on Sunday night, June 25, 2023, also shot two persons and reportedly r*ped three women during the attack.
According to a member of the vigilante group, the attack was more of a revenge mission as the bandits had earlier accused Nabanje of being responsible for the destruction of their enclaves.
“The hoodlums arrived in the community in a large number and proceeded to the residence of our vigilante commander. They blocked all routes to avoid him escaping. After a painstaking search, they found him under a tree where they engaged him in a gun duel until he ran out of ammunition and was rounded up when he sought refuge in a compound where he was butchered.”
Spokesman of the State Police Command, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, who confirmed the incident said the report got to the police late due to downpour and poor network experienced on the day of the attack.
The PPRO however said efforts were ongoing with a view to arresting the hoodlums.
In another development, bandits kidnapped the Secretary of Miyetti Allah in Faskari Local Government Area of the state, Malam Wada Yau (PICTURED) and his wife.
Multiple Facebook posts identify his wife as Gabby Prenell, 27. The couple have three children together.
In a Facebook post that was sent from the Hampton Inn hotel where the shooting took place, Prenell captioned a picture with his wife and kids: ‘I may not be a perfect man, but I’ll always be a family man.’
A picture from the scene published by The Enterprise-Journal showed blood-stained floors close to the elevators in the hotel’s lobby in McComb, Mississippi. The shooting took place around 3:30pm. Prenell is alleged to have shot his wife twice and then himself, investigators said.
Authorities have not commented on Prenell or his wife’s condition. A Facebook post from a friend of Gabby’s said that the mother was ‘still fighting’ in an intensive care unit.
Both were rushed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Their children are in the custody of child protective services.
According to Prenell’s Facebook page, he’s a former sheriff’s deputy with the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Department up until as recently as December 2022.
On April 6, Prenell paid tribute to his wife on her birthday calling her ‘my queen’ and ‘the woman that I love and owe my life to.
‘I’ve watched your growth on all levels and you’re a great mother, wife, and my best friend. I’m proud to be your husband because you are a woman of class, discretion, integrity, and most importantly….you’re a woman of God,’ he added.
The pastor regularly spoke about his self-growth in Facebook posts.
‘At the age of 25, I often hear that I’m far beyond my years. However, I never get satisfied with where I am….I’m constantly looking for more,’ he wrote on April 16.
‘People with small minds will keep you locked up into what can fit into their heads. The God I serve doesn’t have a limit, and I’m staying faithful because I know my cup shall run over,’ he added.
When questioned by a follower, she defended the singer, saying he had debunked the allegation.
She wrote:
“His Mature response says everything…
SOME PEOPLE WILL HAVE A PROBLEM UNDERSTANDING HIS STYLE OF RESPONSE BUT LET ME SHOUT AND MAKE IT EASY FOR YOU….He has debunked the lies and says he is thankful to God for his life and wife….”
“@uz.ogbu you obviously want to believe the lies. She was with him in church by his side and that says everything. Whatever was planned the devil failed. Believe what u want. They are together thank God!!!”
President Bola Tinubu on Monday in a surprise move, retired all the Service Chiefs, the Comptroller General of Customs, and the Inspector General of Police.
The president has since nominated their replacements.
It would be recalled that the President appointed — Maj. Gen. C.G Musa Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. T. A Lagbaja Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla Chief of Naval Staff and AVM H.B Abubakar Chief of Air Staff. Unlike other appointments, the Armed Forces Act makes it mandatory for the two chambers to separately grill the designated service chiefs.
For ministerial appointments, confirmation by the senators is required, however, in the case of the service chiefs, each chamber has the power to grill the appointees.
“(1) The President, may, after consultation with the Chief of Defence Staff and subject to confirmation by the National Assembly, appoint such officers (in this Act referred to as “the Service Chiefs”) as he thinks fit, in whom the command of the Army, Navy and Air Force, as the case may be, and their Reserves shall be vested,” the Act reads.
In 2021, the current service chiefs were grilled by the security committees in the House and the Senate before the confirmation of their appointments.
In the House, a joint Committee, comprising the Army, Navy, Air Force and Defence, screened the appointees, while a similar thing happened in the Senate.
However, the announcement of the appointment was done while the lawmakers were on holiday, and both chambers are yet to set up the Committee
Gunmen have shot dead two persons in the Ubeta-Owube axis of Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The victims, identified as Confidence Chiadikobi Franco and the driver of the commercial vehicle they were travelling in, were killed when they were ambushed by the gunmen on Saturday.
According to Major Elleh, an indigene of the Ubarama community, the driver of the vehicle and the owner of the building materials were on their way to Owube.
Elleh, a former community development committee chairman of Ubarama, told DAILY POST: “We learnt from reliable sources that the two victims were shot at about 11 pm in Owube, a neighbouring community, about one kilometre away from Ubarama. One of the victims is Confidence Chiadikobi Franco, who lived in Port Harcourt.
“His father’s house was brought down during the flood, and he bought some building materials for the house. And he was gunned down with the driver by these hoodlums along Ubata.”
Elleh called on stakeholders and the Local Government Council Chairman to give the necessary support to the new Divisional Police Officer and other security agencies in the area to clamp down on criminal elements.
“I believe the new DPO is an active man with a track record. And I have the belief that he’s going to do his work very well,” he said.
The Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the killings in Ahoada West and assured that an investigation is ongoing to arrest the hoodlums.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police Nwonyi Polycarp-Emeka had, upon assumption of office, redeployed the DPOs of Akinima Police Division and Ahoada Police Division in Ahoada West and East LGAs, respectively.
The new DPOs were supposedly appointed as a strategy to reduce cult-related activities and other criminal activities in the area.
