He will bounce back!

Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, has experienced a significant decline in his wealth following the decision by the Central Bank of Nigeria to float the naira.

The sharp devaluation of the Naira against the US dollar has also caused him to slide down the ranks on the world's billionaire list.

In just one day, over N1.4 trillion was wiped off his net worth.

However, based on his past track record, it is anticipated that he will.

Israel DMW, the logistics manager of Davido has taken to his Instastories to clarify the singer’s affiliation with Trevboi, who is accused of murder.

This comes amidst allegations of Trevboi shooting and killing a man at a popular club in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State.

Contrary to being a member of the 30BG, Isreal made it clear that Trevboi was never officially signed to DMW.

Isreal DMW explained that Trevboi was simply someone Davido once supported voluntarily by collaborating on a song.

Isreal further disclosed that Davido generously covered all expenses for Trevboi’s music video, but they have since parted ways.

He expressed disappointment in the singer, stating that he had the audacity to put a stain on Davido as a form of gratitude for his previous kindness.

“Trev was never Oga’s signee. He was just somebody whom Oga assisted freely, by, jumping into his song. Oga even paid everything for his video shoot. Oga, long parted ways with him when he even had the guts to insult Oga, as a payback for all his kindness,”

IGP Withdraws Mobile Policemen From Ex-govs, Ministers, VIPs

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the withdrawal of Mobile Police Force personnel attached to several Very Important Persons, including ex-governors, former ministers and lawmakers.

The order according to Punch was contained in a police wireless message from Mopol 45 Force Headquarters, Abuja, affected Daura Buhari, brother to former President Muhammadu Buhari as well as former First Lady, Aisha Buhari’s sibling and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

The development came a few weeks after the IG vowed to withdraw Police Mobile Force personnel from VIP escort and guard duties.

He had also announced plans to establish the Special Intervention Squad, which according to him, would have 40,000 highly trained police officers including selected officers from the Police Mobile Force.

This, the IG said, was to allow the police to take back its place in the “internal security architecture” of the country.

Egbetokun, who spoke during a meeting with Squadron leaders and Tactical Commanders in Abuja, on June 26, stated, “We shall effect the withdrawal of PMF personnel from VIP escort/guard duties. While the protection of dignitaries remains paramount, it is imperative that we realign our priorities to address the escalating security challenges faced by the nation as a whole. By relieving the PMF of VIP escort and guard duties, we can redirect their focus and efforts toward addressing critical security concerns that affect our communities at large.

“In a bid to kick-start the process of regaining our pride of place in the internal security architecture of our dear country first and foremost, modalities for the creation of a new special squad – the Special Intervention Squad have been initiated.

“This special squad shall consist of 40,000 specially trained elite officers. The Squad will be formed by selecting officers from the pool of existing Police Mobile Force personnel and all tactical units in the country.

“These officers will undergo intensive pre-deployment training to make them combat-ready for frontline operational duties in all the states of the Federation, with a particular focus on areas plagued with unrest and turmoil.

“By pooling together the expertise and experience of our PMF personnel and other tactical units, we can establish a formidable force that is well-equipped to handle the evolving challenges we face.”

Egbetokun set up a committee headed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), Adeleke Bode, to assess and advise on how the new policies could be implemented seamlessly.

We Were Paid N50 Million To Kill Apostle Suleman – Suspect Confesses

A suspect has confessed being paid to kill renowned Nigerian televangelist, Apostle Johnson Suleman.

Suleman, the founder of Omega Fire Ministry, was targeted in a frightening incident in October 2022 in Edo State, located in South-south Nigeria.

Yusuf Isa, a 32-year-old plumber from Okene in Kogi State said he and others were paid N50 million to kill the clergyman.

He was presented to the media by the Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja last week.

In a videotaped interview shared on Twitter, Isa laid out the strategic measures his eight-member team used to dodge capture by security forces, suggesting it was divine intervention that led to his arrest.

He said, “It is not easy for the Police Force to track us. We don’t make calls, the phone I am using I’ve never used it to call anybody. We specialised in using the Telegram platform to communicate with ourselves.

“Telegram uses username, not number, unlike WhatsApp. Even the line we are using to buy data, it is not a registered line. We did not register any line by ourselves, and we did not open any account with our own identity.

“I can only say that only God wanted to track me down because of the calibre of people we have assaulted.

“We wanted to kill him. Somebody planned it, but I don’t know the person. It was Labista and Eliazu. Labista is on the run, but Eliazu is dead.”

Mr Isah declined knowledge of who sponsored the attack but said his gang members told him they got N50 million to kill the cleric.

He said, “I just wish I could see him (the cleric) one on one to beg for forgiveness. I’m really sorry.”

He added that it has been “hell” for his gang members after the attack.

Isah said, “We lost two of our leaders. After Eliazu, the next leader, Ejima, also died. I am the next leader after Ejima. Now I have been arrested.”

In another Twitter video, the suspect said four gang members, three in Abuja and one in Ekiti State were still remaining.

Recall that gunmen in October last year attacked Apostle Suleman’s convoy leading to the death of seven people, including three police officers.

Isah, in his confessional video, said their driver, “Abdulrahman”, also died during the incident.

The attack occurred around the Auchi area of Edo State while Suleman was heading to an unidentified location, hours after returning from a trip to the East African country, Tanzania.

Force spokesperson, Mr Adejobi, had said Isah was arrested in Ondo State.

He said, “Intelligence revealed that the seven-man syndicate has been actively involved in kidnapping operations within Edo State and its environs and have carried out about four kidnapping operations between 2021 and 2023 before the gang was eventually busted by the police.”

Buharists Now Orphans In APC – Shehu Sani

Former lawmaker Shehu Sani has called out supporters of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He mocked Buhari’s supporters following the shock resignation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu.

Adamu, the erstwhile APC chairman, tendered his resignation letter on Sunday night.

Following the development, Senator Abubakar Kyari, APC Deputy National Chairman (North), has taken over the affairs of the party.

Adamu is said to be an ardent supporter of the former president.

It was alleged that Adamu worked against the emergence of President Bola Tinubu prior to the presidential primaries and even after he emerged as the candidate of the party.

Sani, in a post via his verified Twitter handle on Monday, following confirmation of Adamu’s resignation, made a veiled remark mocking Buhari’s supporters in the APC.

“The Buharists are now orphans; they are purged in their party,” he wrote.

APC Replaces Omisore With Fuanter, Postpones NEC Meeting

Senator Iyiola Omisore has been replaced as the National Secretary of All Progressives Congress.

The Deputy National Secretary of the party, Festus Fuanter has now taken over his position.

Fuanter, who hails from Plateau State, officially assumes his new position as the acting national secretary on Monday.

The announcement was made by the new Acting National Chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari, shortly after the crucial meeting of the National Working Committee held at the party secretariat on Monday.

Addressing journalists, Kyari confirmed that both Omisore and the erstwhile National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, are no longer part of the APC leadership.

He said, “We are here to address the happenings and recent developments regarding the party. The NWC wishes to inform you about the resignation of the National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu and that of the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore”.

Kyari said that according to the Constitution of the APC, he is now the acting national chairman of the party.

“My humble self as the Deputy National Chairman (North) to assume the office of the Acting National Chairman. Consequently too, the Deputy National Secretary, Barrister Festus Fuanter, will now assume the office of Acting National Secretary of All Progressives Congress.”

Kyari also disclosed that the proposed National Caucus and National Executive Committee meetings slated for July 18 and 19 have been shelved.

“With the recent development, we implore everybody here that the proposed National Caucus and National Executive Committee meetings slated for July 18 and 19, 2023 are hereby postponed. This postponement is not indefinite. A new date will be communicated in the nearest future,” he said.

When quizzed on what led to their resignation, the acting chairman declined to give further information, saying the development will be disclosed at a future date.

He also dismissed speculation that the party may send operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after both Adamu and Omisore.

“There are no allegations against them. Both of them resigned voluntarily and that is what is available at this moment. The details of their resignation will be made known to you in the nearest future,” he said.

On how the new APC leadership hopes to address the plethora of issues raised by the National Vice Chairman for North-West, Mallam Salihu Lukman, Kyari promised that the matter will be given a look-in.

He noted, “Everybody has its own style of administration and I think this present set of NWC will be relying on what the constitution says.”

First Case Of Anthrax Recorded In Nigeria

There has been a confirmed case of anthrax recorded in the country.

A statement released by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Monday, July 17, and signed by Dr. Columba T. Vakuru, Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria, says animals showing signs of a possible case of anthrax on a farm in Suleja, Niger State, were reported to the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria on July 14, 2023.

“The case was in a multi-specie animal farm comprising of cattle, sheep and goats located at Gajiri, along Abuja-Kaduna express way Suleja LGA Niger State, where some of the animals had symptoms including oozing of blood from their body openings – anus, nose, eyes and ears. A Rapid Response team comprising of federal and states One Health Professional Team visited the farm to conduct preliminary investigations and collected samples from the sick animals. Subsequent laboratory tests by the National Veterinary Research Institute laboratory confirmed the diagnosis, marking the first recorded case of anthrax in Nigeria in recent years,
” the statement reads in part.

Anthrax is caused by the spore-forming bacterium Bacillus, which mostly affects livestock like cattle, sheep, and goats. However, it can also infect people who come into contact with infected people or contaminated animal products like meat, wool, or skins. Anthrax that spreads via the skin might result through open wounds or contact with contaminated objects, while anthrax that spreads through the air can happen when spores are inhaled.

The federal government issued a warning to Nigerians weeks ago after learning of an anthrax outbreak in Northern Ghana where all infected animals had died. The federal government appealed to Nigerians to “immediately report cases of animals bleeding from body openings to veterinary authorities, or agriculture extension workers.”

“The blood of an anthrax-infected animal does not clot. Do not process or move the dead or sick animal, quickly report to your veterinary doctor or veterinary authorities at the ministry of agriculture in your state,” the statement advised Nigerians

APC Deputy National Organizing Secretary Confirms Abdullahi Adamu’s Resignation

The resignation of Abdullahi Adamu as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress has been confirmed.

The Deputy National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nze Duru confirmed the resignation while speaking with journalists in his office in Abuja on Monday.

Several reports have already suggested Adamu had stepped down from the position but he himself when contacted, said he won’t make any comment on the development until President Bola Tinubu returns to Nigeria.

Adamu was also absent at the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of the APC held at the party’s secretariat in Abuja on Monday.

Though he confirmed the status of Adamu, Duru said that he cannot confirm if the National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore has stepped down but the secretary is also expected to follow suit.

His words: “One can confirm, yes, credible information that the Chairman of the party has stepped down as the chairman of the party and meetings are currently ongoing.”

“I do not have the information if the secretary has resigned. There is an expectation that he should and I also believe that being a seasoned politician who has played at the highest level, he will always act in the interest of the party.”

Duru said the party is not looking at having a caretaker committee as new persons would emerge for the various positions and the transition would be seamless.

“We are not expecting a caretaker committee and I did make the point that meetings are going on across all the caucuses of the party, the various leadership in the party.

“We know that our constitution has provided adequately, a transition process in the leadership of the party the Deputy National Chairman, North will assume in an acting capacity the position of the chairman.

Meta’s Threads Surpasses 100 Million Users in Just Five Days, Driving Stock Higher

Meta Platforms, formerly known as Facebook, experienced a significant surge in its stock price as its new social media platform, Threads, attracted over 100 million users within a mere five days of its launch. The impressive growth rate of Threads, often likened to Twitter, has caught the attention of investors and industry observers alike.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared the exciting news on Monday, stating that the impressive number of sign-ups was primarily driven by organic demand, without the need for extensive promotional efforts. Meta has yet to fully unleash the platform’s promotional potential, hinting at further growth opportunities.

According to data from Quiver Quantitative published on Monday, Threads achieved the 100 million milestone, making it one of the fastest-growing apps of its kind. In comparison, it took OpenAI’s ChatGPT, supported in part by Microsoft, nearly two months to reach the same milestone.

The market responded positively to this news, with Meta’s stock rising by 1% in early Monday trading, while the Nasdaq experienced a minor decline of 0.21%. Meta shares were valued at $293.24 each, reflecting the enthusiasm surrounding Threads’ success.

Despite the rapid user growth and the attention it has garnered, Threads is not expected to have an immediate impact on Meta’s revenue. However, KeyBanc Capital Markets analyst Justine Patterson estimates that Threads, which already accounts for approximately one-third of Twitter’s active user base, could contribute between $800 million and $6.7 billion to Meta’s overall revenue in 2024.

Regulatory challenges have arisen for Meta in the form of the European Digital Markets Act rules, preventing Threads’ launch in the European Union. Given Meta’s recent legal setbacks involving the handling of user data for targeted advertising, the company is unlikely to challenge this restriction.

CFRA senior equity analyst Angelo Zino believes that despite the exclusion from the EU initially, the growth of Threads is expected to be exponential in the coming months. Zino maintains a positive outlook on Meta’s stock, holding a ‘buy’ rating with a $350 price target.

The launch of Threads followed controversial changes made to the Twitter platform, including limitations on the number of tweets users can see daily. These changes were implemented by Elon Musk, Twitter’s controlling owner, in an effort to combat data scraping and system manipulation on the microblogging website.

New Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, who joined the company from NBCUniversal, expressed the need for significant changes to strengthen the platform. Meta, on the other hand, has capitalized on its vast user base of 3 billion across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to fuel the growth of Threads.

In conclusion, Meta’s Threads has made an impressive debut, attracting over 100 million users within a short span of five days. The success of Threads, coupled with Meta’s existing user base, holds promise for the social media giant, although immediate revenue impact is not expected. Investors and analysts remain optimistic about the platform’s growth potential and its ability to diversify Meta’s revenue streams.
