Gay couple file complaint against Christian painter who 'refused to decorate their home because of their sexuality'

Gay couple file complaint against Christian painter who

A British gay couple has made a complaint against a Christian painter who refused to decorate their home because of their sexuality.

Joshua and George shared a photo on Twitter that appears to show a message sent by a female painter which says that she could not carry out the job at their two-bedroom terrace home in Bristol because of her church's 'recommended guidelines'.

The pair, who have taken the decision not to identify the painter, say they were left 'gobsmacked' and 'seething' by the message. They say they have now made a complaint to the trading website where they found her services, which they say they hope will raise awareness about homophobia.

The case comes after a customer lost a seven-year legal fight with a bakery run by evangelical Christians in Northern Ireland which refused to make a cake with the slogan 'support gay marriage'.

Explaining why they are not naming the painter, Joshua, 23, told LGBTQ magazine Attitude: 'I don't necessarily feel comfortable holding the doors and opening the floodgates. I have this person's details. If I wanted to, yes, I could release them.

'But to be honest, something that I'm conscious of is, I don't want to be really the facilitator in what is now thousands of people who could potentially go to this individual. That individual as much as we don't respect her does not deserve to be piled on.'

Joshua and his partner, 26, wanted their bedroom painted at the home which they bought in June last year. After finding the decorator online, Joshua asked her round for a quote but claims to have noticed her attitude change when he mentioned George.

'We were in the master bedroom when she asked if my partner was in and I replied 'No he's not' that I first thought something was wrong,' he told ITV News.

The woman is then said to have left the property and sent the message hours later, which Joshua shared on Twitter last week. Alongside a screenshot of the text, he wrote: 'Just another day in the life of a practising homo - a tradesperson outright refusing to do some painting/decorating because of my sexuality.'

The couple have not responded to the decorator but have complained to the website which she was advertised on.

Joshua said they did not ask for anything political, such as painting a pride rainbow, adding: 'We just wanted a normal, boring paint job.'

NBA star, LeBron James considering postponing his son's first semester classes and basketball career as he recovers from his cardiac arrest

NBA star, LeBron James considering postponing his son

NBA superstar, LeBron James and his family are reportedly considering postponing his son Bronny James' first semester of classes and basketball career at the University of Southern California as he recovers from last week's cardiac arrest.

USC begins class registration on August 14 with students moving in two days later. Classes start on August 21.

The source emphasized that the family is following doctors' recommendations, while not ruling out a return to the hardwood for Bronny.

'LeBron and the rest of the family have talked about putting off Bronny's school requirements during this fall semester to allow Bronny to fully recover,' the source told DailyMail. 'They are also looking to see if he can take classes from home, so he can start school at the time he intended.

'To continue his recovery is the first mission to complete. Decisions are 50/50 right now on what they will all do next, and they will also continue to look into possibly having Bronny play basketball again. As for school, they have to make the decision within the next week, basketball dreams and if they continue are conversations for the future. It is whatever the doctors recommend right now.'

Bronny was seen on Friday for the first time since being taken ill when LeBron and the James family went out for dinner at the celeb hotspot.

LeBron arrived only with wife Savannah and their daughter Zhuri but the Lakers star left a few hours later alongside Bronny and his other son, Bryce.

People quoted a source as saying that diners approached the family to offer their best wishes.

'LeBron kept expressing how grateful he is,' the source was quoted as telling People.

'It was of course wonderful to see Bronny after the frightening week. LeBron and the family are regular guests. Everyone was praying for Bronny's recovery.'

The following day, LeBron shared video of Bronny playing piano at home and wrote as a caption on his Instagram post: 'GRAND RISING!! God Is Great. @bronny YOU ARE AMAZING!!! Simple as that! Keep going!!! We're here right with you every step of the way.'

Bronny was rushed to the hospital on Monday after collapsing at USC's Galen Center, where he was practicing with the rest of the Trojans basketball squad.

The teenager was admitted to intensive care before later being stabilized. He was eventually released from the hospital altogether on Thursday.

Upon announcing that Bronny had been discharged, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center said Thursday in statement: 'Thanks to the swift and effective response by the USC athletics' medical staff, Bronny James was successfully treated for a sudden cardiac arrest.

'He arrived at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center fully conscious, neurologically intact, and stable.

'Mr. James was cared for promptly by highly-trained staff and has been discharged home, where he is resting.

Although his workup will be ongoing, we are hopeful for his continued progress and are encouraged by his response, resilience, and his family and community support.'

LeBron, meanwhile, tweeted out a statement on Thursday thanking fans for the messages of support that his family have been sent.

'I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers,' he wrote on Twitter.

'We feel you and I'm so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love.

'Will have more to say when we're ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us! #JamesGang.'

No room for violent protests in Nigeria- IGP

No room for violent protests in Nigeria- IGP

The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expressed deep concern over the August 2 nationwide protests announced by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

In a statement released by the spokesperson of the police force, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Egbetokun while recognizing the constitutional right to peaceful protests, appealed to the labour union to ensure the demonstrations remain peaceful and not be hijacked by miscreants. The police chief directed the Commissioners of Police across various commands and supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to engage with the NLC and TUC leadership to find common ground regarding the protests.

Read the statement below

‘’The Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, is deeply concerned about recent developments regarding planned nationwide protests by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC). While being mindful of the right to peaceful protest, as enshrined in our Constitution, the IGP urges all parties involved to ensure that the planned demonstrations are conducted in a peaceful manner to prevent being hijacked by miscreants, owing to the previous ugly experiences of such protests in most major cosmopolitan cities in the country. The IGP, however, acknowledges the grievances raised by the labour unions and the importance of constructive dialogue, which is sine qua none, in addressing these issues.

In light of this, the IGP orders the Commissioners of Police in charge of various commands, and supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, to engage in fruitful discussions with the NLC/TUC leadership to foster understanding and reach common grounds on the planned protests. A peaceful and coordinated approach is crucial to achieving meaningful solutions and preventing any form of violence or disruptions to public order, should the protests persist.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens during the period of the planned protests as all necessary measures to facilitate the peaceful conduct of these demonstrations have been emplaced. However, it is hereby reaffirmed that any attempt by miscreants to exploit the situation for violent purposes viz-a-viz vandalism, gangsterism, and extortion will be met with firm, professional and commensurate lawful approach. The Police will not tolerate any act that threatens the peace and well-being of our country.

In light of the potential challenges posed by the planned protests, the Nigeria Police Force is fully prepared to deploy all available resources to maintain law and order and to protect the lives and property of our citizens. The IGP therefore calls on all officers to be vigilant, professional, and uphold the highest standards of conduct during this period.

The Police boss urges all stakeholders, including the NLC, TUC, and other civil society groups, to embrace peaceful dialogue as the most effective means of resolving grievances, while also reemphasizing that the Police is committed to ensuring a secure and conducive environment for open dialogue, constructive engagement and mutaul understanding for a seamless exercise of civil rights.''
